September 2010 Cali World Salsa Dance Festival Five thousand dancers from around the world will be at the fifth World Salsa Festival of Cali this September to compete for the title of World's Best Salsa Dancers. With thousands of Salsa dancers from the 60 plus Salsa schools from Cali, this event has become almost an entirely Cali affair. To the irresistible sound of the drums, guiro, trumpet and maracas, Cali will remind the world that those Cuban and Caribbean rhythms are also a strong part of Colombia's heritage. Dancers from the United States, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Canada, Spain, Japan, England (and more to be confirmed) will all compete. The Festival has various categories: Teams, couples ON 1 and Cabaret, plus the children Teams division. This special event also includes many Salsa activities, such as workshops in Cali Salsa style and Salsa on 1 and Salsa on 2 with important international guest instructors. This year, the Festival will also bring together researchers, academics, businessmen, art directors and designers; and for the second time, Cali's Monumental Plaza de Toros Cañaveralejo will be the setting for the extravaganza, which is expected to draw around fifteen thousand spectators. More than just a competition, this event is cultural and educational lectures, workshops and business exhibitions will be offered. The Festival also includes conferences, exhibitions and concerts.
